Life as an Account Executive at Circus
This week’s Circus performer features our Senior Accounts Manager, Liz Gibson. We are very lucky to have found Liz, who has been involved in the shopping centre industry throughout her entire career – something that comes in handy considering the number of shopping centres in our portfolio.
Liz put herself on the fast track towards success in the industry at a very young age. While in high school 15-year old Liz attended an in-mall event where she became certain this was where she belonged. Confident in knowing where she was headed, she hit the streets running, literally. She entered the industry selling ad space door-to-door for shopping centres. Through years of work in the trenches and studying, Liz was on the track to climb her way up the ladder until she eventually found herself in the position of Shopping Centre Marketing Director. In that role she has been the champion of marketing for numerous Shopping Centres across the province.
Throughout her experience as a marketing director, Liz had a number of interactions with Cheryl Cardon, who provided agency support. Over the years of developing relationship Liz’s interests were peaked when she learned that Cheryl was starting her own company, Circus. Cheryl understood that Liz had an intricate understanding of the needs of a client and had the background knowledge Cheryl was seeking in an Accounts Manager, a title that Liz jokingly admits, “always changes.”
As much as Liz enjoys both sides, she admits, “it’s way harder on the agency side,” though it may be her drive for excellence that makes it so. In both roles, Liz was active in cultivating out-of-the-box ideas, but now is responsible for executing the campaigns, contests and whatever else is dreamed up, on-time and within budget. Making this look easy, Liz has become the go-to person for our account executive team, from opening dockets, devising strategies, and troubleshooting of any variety.
“Complete” is the best description of the grasp Liz has on the industry. With over 20 years of work experience aside her accreditation as a Certified Marketing Director, Liz has a hefty playbook of ideas to draw from. She has done it all from opening new malls and managing major budgets, to holding seasonal sidewalk sales, and this diverse behind-the-scenes knowledge gives Circus a real competitive edge on the agency side! Liz sees each situation from all sides of the game ball, including the perspective of avid shopper and full-time mother of three.
From the view of Liz’s well-trained eyes, it is the strategic expansion of the people behind Circus that has made it the success story that it is. The in-house development of specializations has set Circus apart, not having to outsource to fulfill clients’ needs in design, photography, web development and social media set Circus a step above the rest. Liz can safely say from firsthand experience that clients appreciate the full-service support in addition to the forward-thinking innovation that Circus has become known for.
